Dear brothers and sisters,
Well, I don't know about you but, I find that I sing in the down times and the up times. There are so many songs for every situation. Do you love to SING? Did I mention, it doesn't matter if you can carry a tune? It is the heart behind the action that counts. Have you ever been next to a child who sings without care of what they sound like? Their enthusiam becomes our joy! This is how God listens to us. With total acceptance and joy.
Psalm 147:7 says, "SING to the Lord with thanksgiving; SING praises with the harp or the lyre to our God!" If you can find an instrument, use it! Anytime is a good time!
I think the whole of Psalm 27 would have been set to music as David sang. There are times in our lives when it is a sacrifice of song that we lift up. "And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will SING, yes, I will SING praises to the Lord." We can SING songs of salvation with gladness right along with His chosen people Israel as it says in Jeremiah 31:7.
I Corinthians 14:15 says, "What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will SING with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will SING [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also."
God's Spirit moves us to SING both when we are praying and I believe even when we can't find the words to pray as our heart longs to. That is where I found myself this morning. Since very early, I have been singing songs from long ago. They are a healing salve to my soul and help me to rise above a blanket of heaviness.
We find thankfulness for all the Lord is to us. In Colossians 3:16 it says, "Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you all [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you SING] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts."
God has placed songs of worship in our hearts to help us remain in His Love. I could have allowed myself to drift and sink into despair this morning, but instead, His Spirit stirred a song in my heart. SING to Him! You will find immeasurable peace to replace wayward thoughts. The emotions you are feeling are very real. Yes, but they too need to be brought into submission before the throne of God.
Read Psalm 59:16-17 with me, "But I will SING of Your mighty strength and power; yes, I will SING aloud of Your mercy and loving-kindness in the morning; for You have been to me a defense (a fortress and a high tower) and a refuge in the day of my distress...
Unto You, O my Strength, I will SING praises; for God is my Defense, my Fortress, and High Tower, the God Who shows me mercy and steadfast love." You are my matchless warrior, Jesus! Amen.
Thank you Lord for helping us dress in a garment of praise in exchange for a spirit of heaviness! Your Love amazes me. You are aware. You see my moments of weariness and lift me up. You calm my anxious heart. You give me a spirit of power and love and a sound mind. You are my God! Bless Your Holy name!
Someday we will SING a new song! When we see His appearing we will rejoice and SING Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty Who was, Who is, and evermore will be! Are you ready for that great day of SINGing before the throne of God? Our Redeemer deserves all our praise! We can begin today!
